The Oceti Sakowin Education Consortium (OSEC) Special
Education Program believes that all Indian children
with disabilities, ages birth through 21, enrolled
at member tribal schools and institutions have the
right to a free and appropriate education in the least
restrictive environment. OSEC strives to make this
belief a reality by providing high quality technical
assistance to administrative and instructional staff,
and direct related services to students based upon
organization member’s needs. Further, the OSEC
Special Education Program serves to advise and advocate
compliance with any statutes and/or regulations designed
to ensure educational equity for all students with
disabilities.
OSEC has an affiliation with nine tribes and schools
within the state of South Dakota. These tribes include
the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, Crow Creek Sioux Tribe,
Flandreau-Santee Sioux Tribe, Lower Brule Sioux Tribe,
Pine Ridge Sioux, Rosebud Sioux Tribe, Sisseton-Wahpeton
Tribe, Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and the Yankton Sioux
Tribe.
