Speech/Language Therapist/Clinician
 
  Qualifications:
 
Applicant must have or be able to acquire a South Dakota teaching certificate with a speech/language endorsement. This would require a Masters in Speech Language for applicants that would be requesting a new South Dakota certification. Applicant would work with South Dakota Certification if he/she has any questions about certification, which can be reached at certification@state.sd.us
 
Skills and knowledge beneficial to the position include:
   
1. Experience within a school setting
2. Experience working within a Native American community and/or school
3. Ability to provide instruction for the speech/language and/or hearing impaired.
4. Scheduling program planning.
5. Basic knowledge of special education/Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
6. Operation of an audiometer
7. Communication skills.
8. Diagnostic experience in Speech/Language and Hearing.
9. Ability to work in a variety of educational settings.

10. Willingness to travel.

11. Knowledge of screening practices in Speech/Language and Hearing
 
Job Objectives:
  To provide Speech/Language and Hearing services to children in member schools or in Early Childhood Settings.
 
Specific Duties Include:
  1. Conduct hearing screenings
2. Be a participant on a child's multi-disciplinary team
3. Conduct assessments as determined by multi-disciplinary team
4. Prepare written reports based on evaluation data
5. Help to develop an Individual Education Plan (IEP)
6. Prepare goals and objectives designed to meet the needs of children

7. Program should include language, articulation, fluency, voice and services of the hearing

  impaired based upon students' needs
8. Develop a schedule for provision of services to meet the needs of students in a participating
  school.
9. Document/Log student services as provided
10. Coordinate with other professionals to address the specific needs of a child
11. Provide assistance, guidance and possible training to teachers and parents
12. Provide required reports based upon school, student and organization needs.
13. Responsible for professional growth pertaining to duties, certification and/or licensure
14. Perform other duties that are pertinent to the effective and efficient operation of the school(s)
  and organization.
 
Contract Days:
  1. Contract days are built around school calendar(s). Approximate starting date of August 4th.
