School Psychologist
 
  Qualifications:
 
Applicant must have or be able to acquire a South Dakota teaching certificate with a psychologist endorsement. This would require a graduate degree in school psychology and a supervised internship in an accredited school setting for a period of one academic year; OR possess Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) certification. Applicant would work with South Dakota Certification if he/she has any questions about certification, which can be reached at certification@state.sd.us
 
Skills and knowledge beneficial to the position include:
   
1. Experience within a school setting
2. Experience working within a Native American community and/or school
3. Scheduling and program planning
4. Working knowledge of special education/Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
5. Communication skills
6. Management Skills
7. Ability to work in a variety of educational settings
8. Willingness to travel
 
 
Job Objectives:
  To provide school psychological services which assist assigned school(s) in the identification, planning, referral, and counseling of children requiring special education services.
 
Specific Duties Include:
  1. Provide educational and psychological evaluations, as comprehensive as necessary to determine
  the academic, social, and emotional needs of individual children
2. Participate in interdisciplinary consultation in determining the eligibility, appropriate planning, and
  re-evaluation of program results for student who require special education services.
3. Assist with the development of students’ Individualized Education Plan (IEP), including both
  educational and therapeutic goals and objectives based upon individual student needs
4. Facilitate and/or complete a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) based upon school and
  student needs.
5. Assist with the development, implementation and monitoring of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP)
  based upon student needs.
6. Develop a schedule for provision of services to meet the needs of students in a participating school
7. Document/Log student services as provided
8. Coordinate with other professionals to address the specific needs of a child
9. Provide assistance, guidance and possible training to teachers and parents
10. Provide required reports based upon school, student and organization needs.
11. Responsible for professional growth pertaining to duties, certification and/or licensure
12. Perform other duties that are pertinent to the effective and efficient operation of the school(s)
  and organization.
